Debs Makeup Application

This is my first ever debs makeup! My lovely regular model for portfolio work- Sophie (who I studied art, craft & design with last year and is a very patient model) asked if I would do her makeup for the Debs and of course I got my kit out for her.It was a bit of a departure for me, because I tend to only go ahead with photographic makeup unless someone specifically asks me to do their make up if we are going for a night or they need to look pretty for a special occasion, something like that. That's the only time I do more natural looks.

I had more time than I needed to finish this in, so we had a bit of a chat and something of a makeup lesson- Sophie said she learned so much. I spent a lot of time contouring and highlighting, and building colour, unfortunately it's a more natural make up-not for photographic purposes so it got a little washed out on camera.

P.s. The lovely couple are Sophie & Aaron.

Fantasy Makeup from Spring 2013

This was a look I used for the end of year college show-Creative Initiatives Exhibition last Thursday.

My friend Victoria's makeup creation- A Horny Devil! Vicki worked on this look from 9am til 6pm, she made the dress from scratch, and the foam latex horns.

Our ladies were very well received, both appeared in the local paper & tv.

More Theatrical Makeup-1920's-1980's

From the theatrical module in my makeup Artistry course

20's

30's

40's

60's

80's

These makeup applictions were from the beginning of my Uni Course,  and amongst some of the first photoshoots that I had in Makeup. I wasn't sure how to pose the models, what background to use, or even how to makeup/style them effectively i.e. in a manner that would present a cohesive whole.
It's quite strange to be able to see progression in my makeup looks, from 9 months ago to now.

Some of them, like the 1920's looks I took with jackie that I included as the first photoset on here, I still really like-but  in others, for example the 30's one which was rushed, and cobbled together during an open day-although I had the right model for the look- I can see I didn't have the right outfit or the styling is off and they just don't quite fit the era, but such is the learning process. I've redone a few of them, even here on this blog and there is a world of difference between them, mostly it's in adapting the look, whilst maintaining the subtle differences in fashion that each decade ushers in.

Vintage Recreations:Pre 1900's A Medieval Makeup Look

Medieval Makeup

I vamped this look up a little, deviating from what would be a traditional medieval make up, but it really suited the decadent outfit. It reminded me a little of the
hammer horror films in the 70's, she looks so innocent and lovely. She could be one of the schoolgirls from Carmilla.

Special Effect Makeup- Dig in, with scissors

Oops! A  deep gouge to the forearm, for the portfolio.

I did some work on the veins too, & some tissue/latex as a bit of bone peeking out but I couldn't get the colouring right on the skin part of the incision because my college kit didn't have any wax sealor . It was just sliding all over the place when I tried to stipple foundation on it, so disappointing!  Going to give it another go once I buy sealant.

Must get some at the beauty show on Monday, do say hello if you see me at the RDS on the 4th for Professional Beauty.

Let them eat cake- A pastel cake themed Makeup!

Just a quick, fun test for a future look.
I was browing alex box's work for illamasqua and got inspired.

an aside;
I never through I would get to incorporate my art into makeup artistry, always the other way around.
I have 20 or so paintings I'm working on for the summer based on reference shots took using the makeup looks I've done but I have only just begun to think of ways to interlink the body/the environment/my own artistic vision. Am well up for creating a photographic series using the body as a canvas once uni is finished up for the summer & my portfolio work is winding down.
